Why this matters

AI can create meaningful value — but only when it is connected to a real need.

Starting with the technology often leads organizations toward expensive tools, unclear expectations, and solutions that never address the actual problem.

A better AI strategy begins with the business.

The Big Idea

“We need AI” isn’t really a strategy.

Before choosing an AI product, model, platform, or service, first understand what the organization is trying to accomplish.

Start by asking:

Why?
What problem are we trying to solve?
What outcome are we trying to achieve?

The objective is not to find somewhere to insert AI. The objective is to improve a meaningful outcome.

Why this matters in practice

Once the objective is clear, examine the broader system:

  • What happens today?
  • Where is the real pain point?
  • What data is involved?
  • Which people, processes, and systems must work together?
  • What risks need to be governed?
  • How will success be measured?

Only then can you determine whether AI belongs in the solution — and what kind of AI capability is appropriate.

Key takeaway

The right solution may involve:

  • an AI model,
  • an AI-powered product,
  • automation,
  • better data,
  • a redesigned process,
  • clearer governance,
  • or a combination of several approaches.

The technology should follow the need.

The goal is not to use AI. The goal is to solve the right problem in the right way — and measure whether it worked.
